Most of a backsplash is not the tile. It is the outlet boxes brought flush with the new surface, the cuts wrapped around tall Victorian walls where the tile must stop cleanly in open space, the inside corners kept square, and the space behind the range held to a consistent line. Get those wrong and the job reads as cheap no matter what tile you bought.
